USAS JO Logo

The sites and dates for the 2020-2021 USA Shooting Georgia State Rifle & Pistol Junior Olympics Championship have been announced.

For the seventh year in a row, there are multiple locations in Georgia for the state qualifier competitions. I will again serve as the state coordinator, collecting state-wide results and sending out the award medals provided by USA Shooting.

Air Rifle, Air Pistol

Central
JP O’Connor is now the Match Director for this location.
Sat 26 Dec 2020 – Griffin, GA (now completed)
Air Rifle, Air Pistol, Smallbore Rifle (3×20), Sport Pistol
Sat 27 Feb 2021 & Sat 20 Mar 2021 – Griffin, GA
Air Rifle, Air Pistol, Smallbore Rifle (3×20)

North
(No dates in 2021 – COVID-19 restrictions on the university campus) – Dahlonega, GA
Air Rifle, Air Pistol, Smallbore Rifle (3×20), Sport Pistol

All three locations will use electronic targets for air rifle and air pistol. Central and North also offer smallbore rifle on electronic targets. North & Central offer sport pistol which will use paper targets.

UPDATES – South – location was added by USA Shooting after the original announcement.

You may download the Central location Match Program & Entry Form for information and entry instructions. This program also has a complete explanation of all THREE ways to earn an invitation to the National Junior Olympic Shooting Championships in the spring along with updated at-large selection scores from last year.

Many states cannot host this year due to the pandemic. Come shoot your qualifier with us at the Central location. We already have entries from Iowa, West Virginia, Alabama, and South Carolina, along with current NCAA athletes.

Contact the appropriate Match Director anywhere in the nation to obtain a match program and other information. Nationwide host sites, match director names and contact information may be found in the 2020-2021 State Host Sites spreadsheet link on the USA Shooting National Junior Olympic Program page, along with additional general information.

Send in your entry early. Prime relays fill up early, especially at the North location.

Currently tentatively planned for May 2021 at Hillsdale College Michigan, the national dates and schedules for the three phases (Men’s Rifle, Women’s Rifle, Pistol) have not been published at this time. Dates and schedules will be published on the same USA Shooting page linked just above.

Be sure to enter, even if you think that you are not “ready” for this competition. Many people were surprised the past few years when they earned an invitation! Others who were good enough missed out because they did not enter.

Renew your USA Shooting membership online, or join online right away so you have your membership number, as required on the JO entry forms.

If you cannot compete in one of the events in your home state, you may compete as a non-resident in any other state’s event to potentially earn an automatic or at-large invitation. Find a host site that is convenient for you and make contact.

2020 – Georgia – State Junior Olympics – CMP Three Position Air Rifle JO State Championship

Print

(Revised Mon 03 Feb 2020 4:10 pm ET.)

UPDATE – Tue 24 Mar 2020

Due to the public health situation, the “North” match, scheduled for Sat 28 Mar 2020 at the Ole Mill is being postponed until a date to be determined later. Further details will be available later.

UPDATE – Sat 14 Mar 2020

Please note new location for the North Georgia event on Sat 28 Mar 2020. Due to the instructional situation with the University System of Georgia (public) universities, and the cancellation of all NCAA competitions, the University of North Georgia location is no longer available for this match.

New location is the Ole Mill Range Complex in Griffin, GA.

We will have 1 relay at 10:00 am ET.

Contact JP O’Connor for information and questions.

The sites and dates for the 2020 CMP Three Position Air Rifle Junior Olympics Georgia State Championship have been announced.

Once again, we will have three sites for the state qualifiers.

South – Sat 21 Mar 2020 – Waycross, GA
Match Director: Maurice England
Match Listing: Here
Match Program: Download TBD

Northeast – Thu-Sat 23-26 Apr 2020 – Tallulah Falls, GA
Match Director: Tim Stamey
Match Listing: Here
Match Program: Download TBD

North Georgia – Sat 28 Mar 2020 – Ole Mill Range Complex, Griffin, GA
Match Director: JP O’Connor
Match Listing: Here
Match Program: Download from here
(Updated match program with new location and relay time will be uploaded once approved by CMP.)

All three locations will use electronic targets.

Host sites, match director names and contact information may be found in the CMP competition search web page or directly at the Match Listing links above. Note there separate match listings for all three locations and dates. See the contact information for each location within each match listing.

Contact the appropriate Match Director to obtain a match program and other information for the South & Northeast locations, and at the download link above for the North Georgia location. Registration is via mail to each location.

Send in your entry early. Prime relays fill up early, especially at the North Georgia location.

We will add extra relays if needed at the North Georgia location. If there is a need and enough participants identified well in advance, we will add an afternoon relay for those taking the SAT in the morning.

These events are qualifiers for the national events and are EIC points eligible. Hosted and run by the CMP, the National Junior Olympic 3P Air Rifle Championship is a very popular program involving thousands of three position air rifle athletes (sporter and precision) from all over the country.

Qualifying for either of the CMP national events allows the team or individual to compete in BOTH CMP championships: the JO event mentioned above and the CMP National  3P Air Rifle Championship. Both events usually include generous cash prizes.

Because many athletes are only involved in 3P air rifle, they are unaware of the Olympic events and the very important USA Shooting Junior Olympics discussed here. They should participate in both programs if shooting precision air rifle.
